PHCC Celebrates World Patient Safety Day

06 Oct 2024

In its commitment to promoting the health and safety of its patients, the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) celebrates World Patient Safety Day, which falls on September 17 each year. This year, under the theme “Improving Diagnosis for Patient Safety,” and in line with the slogan “Get it Right, Make it Safe!,” the corporation marked this occasion by illuminating its headquarters and Al Waab Health Center in orange, coinciding with the World Health Organization’s call to light buildings in this color, which symbolizes patient safety.

As part of its steadfast commitment to enhancing and supporting patient safety, the corporation participated in the scientific conference for the 10th Qatar Patient Safety Week, organized by the Ministry of Public Health over three days. Dr. Mariam Abdul Malik, Managing Director of PHCC, participated in a panel discussion during the conference that addressed the latest developments in the field of patient safety, featuring a selection of local and international speakers. Additionally, Ms. Nawal Khattabi, Director of Risk Management, Patient Safety, and Patient Engagement at PHCC, delivered a lecture on improving patient safety and engagement.

Moreover, the corporation had a dedicated booth at the conference, where various activities were organized to raise awareness about the importance of accurate diagnosis and its crucial role in patient safety, alongside showcasing the corporation’s significant efforts regarding patient safety over the past decade.

This year’s patient safety campaign featured a series of events that took place in 31 health centers affiliated with the corporation. A special corner was designated in each center throughout the campaign week to raise awareness among staff and patients about their active role in improving diagnostic accuracy and safety. A campaign corner was also set up for one day at the corporation’s headquarters to engage staff there in the importance of diagnostic safety.

The campaign was not limited to field activities; awareness messages were also sent to the community and staff via social media and the corporation’s website about the campaign’s theme, in addition to organizing competitions to enhance community and employee participation in this important initiative.

To further raise awareness among healthcare practitioners in health centers, the corporation organized competitions and interdisciplinary training workshops for staff titled “Diagnostic Safety,” aiming to enhance diagnostic accuracy and patient safety in daily practice.

Through these events, PHCC reaffirms its ongoing commitment to fostering a culture of patient safety and its continual dedication to providing the best healthcare services that ensure the safety and well-being of patients.
