The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) successfully concluded its activities commemorating the World Immunization Week, which takes place every year at end of April. With the theme “Humanly Possible: Saving Lives Through Immunization”, PHCC organized a series of events and activities to raise awareness of the objectives of this significant week.
The campaign highlighted the importance of getting vaccinated and the role immunization plays in saving lives by preventing community individuals from contracting diseases that may result in complications and mortality, in addition to supporting individuals in accessing the necessary vaccines for themselves and their children, thereby averting vaccine-preventable diseases.
PHCC activities encompassed the dissemination of vaccination awareness messages via social media platforms as well as educating health centers’ visitors. PHCC Communicable Diseases Department marked this week by organizing several events in collaboration with the School Health Section and health centers. These activities included:
A campaign took place at PHCC headquarters to raise awareness among employees about the significance of vaccinations and encourage them to undergo all necessary vaccinations for themselves and their families. In addition, awareness campaigns and lectures were conducted in select government schools for a week and repeated educational sessions in all government schools were carried out to ensure maximum benefit for students. SMS awareness messages containing scientific information were also sent through school managements to continue spreading health awareness to target groups.
Furthermore, awareness campaigns were carried out by installing awareness booths in all health centers, where various educational and entertaining activities were organized to raise awareness about the importance of immunization and prevention of communicable diseases aiming at promoting the goals of this years’ theme and encouraging the use of vaccinations to safeguard people of all ages against diseases. It is worth noting that vaccines are offered in all PHCC health centers for all age groups, with a special focus on newborns, children, adolescents, adults, seniors, pregnant women and other vulnerable groups.
