The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) recorded more than 3.2 million visits and consultations over the last year, with a monthly average of 270,000. The number of telephone consultations reached 1.3 million by the end of June. Data from the Qatari Achievements Book, issued on the occasion of the new session of the Shura Council, showed that visits to family medicine clinics constituted the bulk of the total visits and consultations during the past year. PHCC laboratories also conducted more than 7.7 million analysis, and about 4.9 million prescriptions were issued.
The data also indicated that more than 74,000 prescriptions were home delivered over the past year, of which 82% were medicines for chronic diseases, which contributed to maintaining the safety of this category from contacting other patients inside the corridors of health centers during the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition, more than 340,000 coronavirus swabs were performed, 23% of them through intra-vehicle testing, and in the first half of this year more than 536,00 coronavirus test swabs were performed.
According to the data mentioned in the report, the total number of workforce in the Primary Health Care Corporation reached 6,757 employees last year, 65% of whom were medical staff and 35% were administrative staff. By the end of June 2021, the total number of employees increased to nearly 8,300 employees, including 1,400 temporary employees who were hired during the “Covid-19” pandemic.
PHCC has also designated the greatest part of its resources and staff to control the pandemic. Despite the unprecedented demands and pressures that PHCC took upon itself and participated in meeting at a state-level, the corporation succeeded in launching new programs to fulfil the needs of the population and focus on priority groups.
On another note, this year represents another milestone in the journey of the Primary Health Care Corporation, as the Corporation continues to implement its strategic plan 2019-2023 in its third year, which includes (6) strategic priorities, (30) goals and (80) strategic activities that are presented over five For years. The corporation aims to be a pioneer in transforming the health and wellness of society in Qatar, as the plan focuses on providing more comprehensive and integrated services and transforming the health care balance into a proactive and enhanced preventive health services model in the community.
