26 Feb 2025

The Wellness Department at the Preventive Health Directorate, as part of the University Wellness Program, organized an event and health gallery titled “Active and Healthy Life.” The initiative aimed to raise awareness, promote the concept of wellness, and encourage healthy lifestyle habits within the university community. This event is part of the Wellness Strategy for Adolescents for the 2024-2025 academic year and was hosted by Community College of Qatar in the presence of Dr. Abdul Hamid Al-Khenji, the program director, and Dr. Eiman Abu-Elshwarib, the program coordinator. Also attending were Mr. Ali Al-Kuwari, the activities coordinator at Community College of Qatar, along with a number of students and supervisors from both sides.

The event featured a health tour that included six wellness stations, each dedicated to a specific health concept:

  • A physical activity station that highlighted the importance and benefits of exercise, allowing students to engage in physical activities, competitions, and challenges.
  • A healthy nutrition station that showcased examples of nutritious foods, emphasizing the benefits of fruits and vegetables for an active and healthy life.
  • A hydration station that explained the benefits of drinking water while addressing students’ questions regarding the recommended intake and proper hydration habits.
  • A healthy sleep station that educated students on the concept of good sleep, including the optimal number of sleep hours and best practices for quality rest.
  • A mental health station that discussed common psychological issues among students, methods for identifying them, and appropriate solutions.
  • A smoking awareness station that highlighted the dangers of smoking and its harmful effects on the body, explaining different types of smoking, their risks, and ways to quit.

Additionally, the event provided various health screenings, including blood sugar level tests, blood pressure measurements, body mass index (BMI) calculations, and carbon monoxide level tests.

The University Wellness Program aims to enhance students’ overall well-being—physically, mentally, and socially—by raising awareness about healthy eating habits, physical activity, sleep hygiene, and stress management. These factors are essential for achieving wellness.

The program seeks to educate and empower students by promoting healthy eating, exercise, sleep, and stress management strategies, ultimately improving their quality of life and academic performance. It also aims to equip students with positive behaviors, self-confidence, and self-guidance by fostering values, experiences, relationships, and qualities that benefit youth. Furthermore, it supports students in achieving a healthy weight and overall well-being through the adoption of a health-conscious lifestyle.
