“Active Life” Exhibition to Raise Student Awareness as Part of the School Wellness Program

26 Nov 2024

The Wellness Department at the Preventive Health Directorate of the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) organized a health event and exhibition titled “Active Life” as part of the School Wellness Program. This initiative aims to raise awareness and promote the concept of wellness and the adoption of healthy lifestyle habits among the school communities participating in the program for the 2024–2025 academic year.

The event was held at Mohammed bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani School, one of the participating schools in the program. Invitations were extended to all schools involved in the initiative to attend and take part in the event.

The exhibition was overseen by Dr. Abdul Hamid Al-Khenji, Dr. Iman Abu Al-Shawarib, and several community medicine program physicians, alongside the program coordinator at Mohammed bin Jassim Al Thani Preparatory School for Boys and the school nurse.

The event featured a health-themed tour, with six stations dedicated to various health concepts:

  1. Physical Activity: Highlighting its benefits and importance, students participated in exercises, competitions, and challenges.
  2. Healthy Nutrition: Showcasing examples of healthy food, emphasizing the benefits of vegetables and fruits for a vibrant life.
  3. Hydration: Explaining the benefits of water, answering students’ questions on proper hydration techniques and amounts.
  4. Healthy Sleep: Teaching the principles of quality sleep, including required hours and techniques for better rest.
  5. Mental Health: Educating students about psychological well-being, diagnosing potential issues, and exploring solutions.
  6. Dangers of Smoking: Explaining the types and harms of smoking, and strategies for quitting.

Additionally, the school nurse conducted various health checks, including measuring blood sugar levels, blood pressure, body mass index, and carbon monoxide levels.

The School Wellness Program aims to achieve quality health and wellness for students—physically, mentally, and socially. Raising awareness of healthy eating habits, adhering to general exercise recommendations, improving healthy sleep routines, and properly managing stress are critical factors in achieving well-being.

The program also seeks to create awareness, educate, and promote strategies for healthy eating, physical activity, sleep, and stress management to enhance students’ quality of life and academic performance. It targets primary, preparatory, and secondary school students, equipping them with positive behaviors, self-confidence, and self-direction by fostering values, experiences, relationships, and traits identified to benefit young people. Furthermore, the program works to improve students’ health and maintain a healthy weight by encouraging a healthy lifestyle.
